DonationsBury Archives Service does accept photographic donations (digital copies or originals) relating to the local area from any period. The following guidelines are intended to answer some of the more common questions we get asked. We accept no liability for items sent in the post and strongly recommend that you arrange to bring material to Bury Archives by appointment (see contacts page). No photographs will be accepted without a donation and reproduction agreement being completed. Bury Archives Service reserves the right to destroy any material sent without prior agreement being made. Sending Photographs We ask that all images donated to us are either out of copyright or that we have your written permission to digitise and use them. Possession of an image does not necessarily mean you own copyright to the image and copyright laws are strict. Therefore we only accept images where the owner can grant us the right to use copies of them. Sending Digital Images We can only accept digital images under the same terms as above. Images cannot be accepted as emails and should be put on CD/DVD. Low resolution images cannot be accepted. The resolution should be at least 300dpi and the scan is preferably sized at around A4 (roughly 30cm x 21cm or 10” x 8”) irrespective of the size of the original. TIFF files are preferred but a Jpeg with a file size of around 1.5MB to 2MB would be acceptable (this is the size of the file and not the size of the picture). Loans for Scanning Unfortunately Bury Archives Service does not have staff time for scanning work on demand. If you have photographs that need to be scanned (in order to donate digital copies) full details of images should be sent to the Archivist for special consideration. Image Information Images will only be accepted if accompanied by contextual information. It is appreciated if donors can include a text file, spreadsheet or letter so information can be added to the database. Information required includes: |
